Drowning Prevention Week
It is Drowning Prevention Week from 22 – 30 June 2013 and we will be visiting Wrington C of E Primary School to teach the children some water safety tips both on dry land and in the water.
We will explore with the children how to keep safe when close to or in the water and what to do if an emergency arises. In the pool, we will cover essential survival skills such as treading water and ‘help and huddle’, different types of floating and a variety of rescue skills.
Astonishingly, accidental drowning is the cause of over 400 deaths each year in the UK and is the 3rd highest cause of children’s death.
With the summer holidays before us and hopefully (fingers crossed) some long hot days by the sea or swimming pool, please spare a moment to look at the excellent water safety tips put together by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) to make sure that your holidays go swimmingly!
