Baby and Toddler FAQ

When can I start my baby swimming?

We’re happy to teach babies as young as 12 weeks old. Some parents prefer to wait until they’ve had their 1st jabs (usually at 12 weeks), but it’s not a requirement. If you want more information on immunisations, visit the NHS Choices website.

Is your pool warm enough for babies?

The temperature is kept at a minimum perfect temperature for babies and children, 30 degrees Celsius.

What do I need to bring with me?

Your own swimming costume and we do insist on a 2 nappy system for little ones; a waterproof swim nappy and a ‘Happy Nappy’ (available from us for £10 or from specialist stockists). Towels for you and your little one, plus a changing mat.

How close to the lesson should I feed my baby?

Ideally, try to give your baby a feed around an hour before the lesson especially once on solids. They will probably want a feed soon after the lesson as swimming makes them hungry!

What about illness?

It is advisable not to swim if your little one has had a bad cold or ear/ chest infection. Please wait 1 week from, symptoms clearing if your little one has had sickness or diarrhoea. If in doubt, we recommend you check with your health professional.

Catch up classes

At Little Swim Company, we understand that everyone can miss the odd class, so we try to offer catch up classes where we can.

Do I need to be able to swim to attend the course with my baby?

No, all our lessons are in shallow water, so an adult can easily stand and walk.

Can I bring a camera or underwater camera?

Sorry, but we can’t allow people to use their own cameras in the pool area, as it can be very distracting and to protect the privacy of our other babies and parents. If you want a picture of your baby in the water, please talk to us and we will try to arrange something.

Special needs/disabilities

We welcome all children and parents.

What qualifications and insurance do you hold?

We are all fully trained swimming teachers with either the STA or ASA. Each swimming teacher has their own personal insurance through their professional body and we also hold swim school insurance.
